Hotel Portonovo Plaza Puerto Vallarta

This was our first trip to Puerto Vallarta and knowing ahead of time how popular this part of Mexico is, we tempered our expectations this time around while traveling on a budget and arriving during peak season. The photos you find online or via Google street maps don’t do the neighborhood justice. The hotel is one block from the beach and the neighborhood is lively and full of everything you need. There’s a big grocery store kitty corner from you & the best part is it’s not as busy & cramped like Zona Romantica. The hotel is budget friendly, the staff were nice and helpful, and overall its a no-frills kinda place. Our room was as pictured: queen bed, a working safe, cold a/c, and hot water in our shower. We had a window with a view to the courtyard of a/c units. Ha! The bed was firm (which I appreciated) and we had housekeeping every day. We did use the pool once, it’s small and cold — nothing special there. The breakfast is also very basic (it’s included). The room could use some work (all the towel and toilet fixtures were falling off the wall) and just needs some fresh paint, a deep clean, and general modern updates. It was overall clean and comfortable for our 3 day stay at our budget. Listen: this isn’t the Ritz or what you’d get if you’re in Thailand at this price. It is however better than what you’d get in America at this price! It’s a 2.5 star hotel and again, you get what you pay for. I’m giving it 4 stars because we stayed with no incident, felt safe, and the location is worth the price.

The Portonovo Plaza is a great hotel. I stayed here twice. Once at the beginning of my trip and once at the end. Both times were great! The staff are very friendly and go the extra mile to accommodate your needs. The breakfast buffet is simple and delicious. Again, the staff are very friendly and willing to help out however they can. The rooms are exactly as shown in the pictures. Some rooms do not have windows but most do. Air conditioning is nice and cool. Rooftop pool is pretty nice as well although the water is colder than the ocean. :) The area around the hotel is the best! Beach and beach bars super close. Tons of amazing restaurants. Both tourist restaurants and little whole in the walls where the locals eat. Easy to walk around and very safe. I'll definitely stay here again. Thank you Portonova Plaza Team!

I LOVE their service... They clean your room once a day & serve nice breakfast. The hotel staff is pretty cool, their pool is cute as well. What I loved the most was sunbathing on my balcony while chatting my friend across the street!?!?!

Clean hotel in a good accessible zone. Rooms are very small but clean. Personnel is very nice, limited english. Rooms towards the ocean side are more quiet. Breakfast is good, nutritious with plenty of fruits, scrambled eggs, beans and various other dishes. Very nice ladies servers. Coffee is weak but starbucks is 2 blocks. Ocean is just a block away and in the morning there is shade, you dont need to rent umbrellas. Pool is small but decent, warm. Wifi doesnt work in the rooms but in the lobby is ok.

I chose this hotel based on location and it did not disappoint. Check-in was fast and easy. The people in the reception area were nice and helpful. Breakfast was great. Buffet style and the servers were really attentive and got you what you need it quickly and efficiently. Breakfast was a good start to the day. Night was a different story. My room faced the main street and the noise at night made it difficult to get to sleep. But when I finally slept the street noise was not an issue. My only complaint included a dead pigeon in the terrace below the entrance to the pool. I pointed it out to the people and it never got removed. It was there when we checked out. I was disappointed. I even offered to remove it myself but I was told to wait for maintenance. The hotel overall was nice. I expected more based on the pictures but it was fine. I will definitely come back and stay.

Rooms are smaller than I thought and shower is always cold, but hey, it was 90 out. The staff are wonderful and helpful. There is also a breakfast buffet served, but I just had coffee. The location is great for getting out and shopping around and a walk on the beach. I would stay there again. Clean and price is on point with a big family.

I booked this place for a quick overnight while waiting for friends to arrive so we could head out of PV for vacation. The staff was friendly and fast. The room was clean, and simple. It had very few bells and whistles and I didn't need any, to be honest. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean and I felt safe and secure inside. I was offered a free breakfast and it was pretty good with lots of different offerings of local food items. The staff let me keep my bags there after checkout which allowed me to wander a bit before meeting my friends at the airport. I liked the neighborhood too. Very quiet, and not as touristy as Zona Romantica, but within walking distance of the boardwalk. Also, there is a street taco place around the corner from here that is super good!

Good breakfast. The room is small and not soundproof. We can hear all of the noises from the street. Sheet beds are clean but still have holes or spots on them. Room cleaning may be late around 3-4pm depends on the room you have. Nice swimming pool on the roof top.
